Good Practice in the Use of Copper

The Copper Council has prepared a Building Code Compliance document, your best practice guide to working with copper tube for plumbing, gas and waste water systems in New Zealand.

It covers all aspects of using copper and works as an essential reference tool in conjunction with the Building Code.

It covers the following topics:

  • Compliance
  • Accreditation
  • Product descriptions, New Zealand standards and the correct copper tube for each application - water and gas reticulation, sanitation and light gauge
  • Maximum working pressures
  • Installation including pipework, jointing, bending, lagging, tube support, hot water piping, system access, water hammer, pressure testing, commissioning, gas reticulation and foul water systems
  • Corrosion - nature of, cause, effect on water quality, corrosion of buried copper tube and methods of control
  • Further useful information and advice

Hints & Tips for Usage

For those jobs where the budget is an issue, consider the use of annealed tube, which cuts installation time and reduces the number of fittings you will require.
